The new Zadkine app
On 8th and 9th of February, the saMBO-ict conference took place at Zadkine in Rotterdam. There were two insightful days full of interesting sessions and presentations. Together with Zadkine we gave a workshop on the new Zadkine app, where students also spoke.
The need for a new app
Zadkine wanted to replace their current app, where it was important that the new app is able to do everything that the current app does, delivers cross platform information, is a white label app and preferably also has a parental login feature.
The StudentsApp met all the requirements and proved to be the perfect replacement. After several presentations and a private tender, Zadkine chose StuComm’s StudentsApp.
Not one but two apps
Not one, but two apps have been developed in close collaboration; the Zadkine app and the VAVO Rijnmond College app. Both apps share a backend and offer the same features, but are delivered in their own corporate identity.
Students from Zadkine and VAVO Rijnmond College played an important role during the testing phase. Throughout various sessions the students were given the opportunity to try the app and give their feedback. VAVO student Eva told during the workshop told that she really liked to be able to test the app and saw that her feedback was being used.
All information in one place
The Zadkine app offers students different features. This allows students to find their timetables, study results, study progress and attendance percentage in the app. They also receive a notification immediately after a timetable change or new study result.
Login for parents
The possibility for parents to also log in was an important point for Zadkine. By giving students the opportunity to add and remove parents, the discussion about who can have access to the students' data is moved to the kitchen table. At the same time, the administrative burden for Zadkine is considerably lower.
A big success
At the end of 2017 there was a "silent launch" of the app, where in the beginning of 2018 the old app was completely replaced by the Zadkine & VAVO Rijnmond College apps. Students were informed via a notification in the old app, posters and a news item. The launch was very successful; in the first week of 2018, 10,000 students had already installed the new app!
The chairman of the Board of Directors of Zadkine, Philippe Raets, summarized the success during the opening of the conference on Friday as "the new, sexy app, which the students are extremely happy about".
The Zadkine app will be expanded further. We will look at the possibilities to provide the app with feedback, contact information and an internship information function.
